I am particularly inspired by panoramic views of the landscape and my art work focuses on the juxtaposition between the man made and organic forms that exist in it. My interpretation of the landscape strives to strike a balance between the land and human modification and also to reflect the energies of the earth.
To actually work with the elements of earth, fire and water in the form of ceramics allows my work to capture a composite of architectural and natural elements which make up the landscape.
My canvases are an emotional response to the landscape and our climate and are mostly painted outdoors, the texture and colour depends on the feeling of the day. One painting may last for weeks as each day it gets a different coating or scraped back from what was there yesterday. The actual process of layering and altering textures and colours and listening to the melody of nature creates feelings of deep harmony with the surroundings.
