I studied Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University as a mature student, graduating in 1995, and completed an M.A. in Fine Art at University College Chester in 1997. I began exhibiting in 1994, and have been involved in more than 30 exhibitions, including four solo shows.
I specialised in printmaking at Manchester Met, and screenprint has been my main medium ever since. I have tried most print processes at one time or another, and intend to re-acquaint myself with one or two at the new Neo-Artists print studio. Outside of my own practice, I have worked as a tutor in Fine Art at several colleges and universities in the north-west, including the University of Bolton.
My recent work has tended to be a combination of household paint and screenprint, drawing on an archive of ephemera and found imagery. The work is primarily influenced by artists from the Pop Art and Surrealist movements, although my taste in art is much broader.
With friend and fellow Neo-Artists member Denis Whiteside I am working towards an exhibition at Gallery Oldham in September 2010 called On the Surface, which has a printmaking theme. Most recently I had a solo exhibition at View Two in Liverpool in March. I have a studio at my home in Salford, and currently work at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester.
